Palace Hongdae

For the British skating and fashion brand Palace, the second store in the Mapo-gu area, known for its youthful energy and universities, is inspired by London’s Southbank, the famed riverside skate spot where Palace was born. The store is inspired with brutalist interior decals, massive floor-to-ceiling windows, concrete pillars and sprawling screen walls.

The store is an exercise in contrast: concrete pillars and ceilings counterpoint a gleaming grey marble floor, while Southbank’s block-like benches are recreated in monolithic slabs of red marble. Also, the bulldog statue from the archives continue at the centre of the store, a ‘P’-shape light – in Palace’s signature slanted font hangs over a display of colourful skate decks.
